Sweaters in the Summer

June 16, 2014 by Nikki 9 Comments

Sweaters in the Summer | NCsquared Life

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen a little peek of this outfit. It seems a little silly to wear sweaters in the summer, but the office where I work as a graduate research assistant loves to keep the temperature approximately arctic so sweaters are necessary. I won’t lie, I kind of like it. The only downside is you have to walk outside in the heat to get inside to the chill, but those few minutes are worth it.

I had trouble deciding if I wanted to wear the belt or not. Ultimately, I went with it but I started out without it. You can see in the photos below that it’s missing. What do you think, belt or no belt?

Here’s the fun one: This was just a test picture so I could get the lightening right (or, at least, as close as possible) and just as the camera snapped, my neighbor jogged by and made me laugh. It’s a cute photo so you get to enjoy it, too.

Striped Tee & Sperrys

Striped Tee & Sperrys | NCsquared Life

This is what Nick wore to the Food Truck Rodeo. A nice, casual outfit for eating greasy food truck fare. Red is Nick’s signature color, so it’s not surprising that he picked these; it also just happens to look really good on him!

He also broke out his new Sperrys. He’s been wanting a pair of casual shoes that he could wear with shorts and tees instead of his loafers, but that were also age-appropriate. I think these look great and he really likes them, too.

Striped Maxi Dress

Striped Maxi Dress | NCsquared Life

I wore this to the food truck rodeo I posted about yesterday and it was really comfortable. The weather was just right  for lunch from a mobile cafe; it was partly sunny and not too hot, and then the clouds rolled in. Luckily we made it home (and snapped some photos) before it rained.

This dress is special because my mom has a matching one! We tried it on at the same time and we both liked it so much that we both left with one. This is the first time I’ve worn it because I had to have the shoulders taken up (being high-waisted is getting expensive!) so we haven’t had a chance to wear it at the same time, but I would totally do that because it’s cute and I don’t care!

Other than the stripes, I was really drawn to this dress because of the unique neckline. It gives this otherwise ordinary dress a little kick.

Summer Time Blazer

June 6, 2014 by Nick No Comments

One thing I like about Banana Republic is that their blazers fit me pretty well without alterations.  There’s a tiny bit of collar roll that I can live with, and the sleeves need to be hemmed about 3/4 in.  Nothing is bad enough to keep me from wearing it as soon as I buy it, which is what I did with this heather gray cotton/linen number.  I would call it more of a spring/fall blazer rather than a true summer blazer because its fully lined.  Kind of odd to do with a linen blazer, but my guess is BR did it to add some durability.

Classy Neutrals

Classy Neutrals | NCsquared Life

For the rest of the summer, I’ll be spending my Mondays at the pediatric clinic for my internship. I wanted to look legit, so this is what I wore on my first day there. It was really chilly in the morning so the sweater was perfect. And I went with neutrals because they’re just so classy. At the clinic, I was briefly mistaken for an interpreter, which is cool because I do speak Spanish, although not as well as I used to, so I probably can’t really interpret as much as awkwardly communicate in present tense. I also wore flats because I figured I would be on my feet most of the day so I wanted to be comfortable.

This bag is great because it fits my laptop, notebook, text book, AND planner without being too bulky. It also has a removeable cross-body strap, which is really convenient when I’m carrying all that stuff in it and my shoulder feels like it’s going to fall off from all the weight. That happens a lot. I actually carry A LOT of bags when I’m at school and my friends jokingly call me the bag lady. I usually have my book bag, my purse, an extra bag to carry the stuff that wouldn’t fit in my book bag, and my lunch bag. Life is hard, y’all.
