Some Days Require No Color

April 9, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

No Color | NCsquared Life

There isn’t much color in this photo. Some days are just like that. There’s a pop of red in the lining of my trench, which you can see in the bottom photo, and there’s green/mint in the necklace, but I went straight up neutral. If I had red flats, I probably would’ve put those on instead. I wore this outfit on Sunday to meet up with my group to prepare for a presentation this week, and I wasn’t really inspired to wear color, especially since I was just going to be sitting in the library for a few hours.

BUT. There’s more to these flats than meets the eye. They have little, shiny studs that catch the light and sparkle. So I may not be wearing color, but I’m technically wearing sparkle, and in my opinion, that’s the true spice to life!

Navy, Crazy Check, and Cognac

April 8, 2014 by Nikki 4 Comments

Navy, Crazy Check, and Cognac | NCsquared Life

I love these crazy pants. They’re technically a black and white checked pattern, but they look great with this navy blouse. Wasn’t it a thing at one time that you weren’t supposed to wear navy and black together? Well, I’m throwing that rule to the wind and wearing whatever I want!

I wore this outfit to a meeting with a professor to discuss a possible internship. It must have been on point because it turns out she can take me on, which means I finally have an internship! And I’ll actually get to graduate! I was seriously getting concerned about that because other avenues I’d pursued weren’t working out. So my advice: if you’re going on an interview then you should wear navy, crazy check pants, and cognac and you’re guaranteed to get it. Ok, of course I’m just kidding and can’t really guarantee that but maybe it’s worth a try?

Menswear Monday: Shorts and Loafers

Menswear Monday: Shorts and Loafers

Menswear Monday: Shorts and Loafers | NCsquared Life

We haven’t forgotten about Menswear Mondays! We’ve been super busy but we’re back now. Here, Nick is wearing khaki shorts with a plaid short sleeved button up and brown loafers. Nick looks great in any color but, lately he’s been wearing a lot of reds, pinks, salmons, and other reddish colors. That’s probably because red is his favorite color.

Anyway, he said it was nice to finally to wear shorts! His advice for wearing loafers with shorts is to wear socks. If you go barefoot, your feet are likely to sweat and get stinky. He found some great loafer socks and he wears them all the time, now that the weather is nice. If you look closely at his feet below, you’ll see a hint of the socks peeking out. They’re maroon and match the rest of his outfit. So make sure your loafer socks match the rest of what you’re wearing!

Unexpected Color Combination

April 1, 2014 by Nikki 4 Comments

Happy April! I think Spring is finally in full bloom and I’m loving it.

Unexpected Color Combination | NCsquared Life

Sometimes I want to dress casually but get tired of wearing jeans. That’s when I turn to chinos! They’re comfortable AND casual with a hint of sophistication. I also love wearing this periwinkle cardigan with navy blue pants, which is kind of an unexpected color combination for me because they’re both kind of dark and similar in color.  The cognac really pops with the navy, though.

I was going to wear this outfit to class but then it was cancelled  so I stayed home to study more biostatistics and then take the dogs for a nice long walk in the sunshine. Then, Nick and I went for dinner and ice cream with friends. It was a perfect Spring day!

How adorable are these shoes? So much so that I bought two pairs, one in cognac and the other in black. I can tell they’re going to be my go-to shoes this spring and summer.

A Little Bit of Everything

March 27, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

A Little Bit of Everything | NCsquared Life

This is the first outfit that formed in my head when I saw this shirt. I’m still afraid of pattern mixing but it’s getting easier, and more fun. And what I love about this outfit is that it has a little bit of everything: it’s fresh, feminine, floral, stripes, pink, drapey-shaped shirt, form-fitting pencil skirt, pearls AND pattern mixing! I think it is one of my new favorite outfits; I want to wear it everywhere. If only the weather would cooperate again, I would wear it everywhere.

And here’s the fun one: who doesn’t love sitting on a bench all pin-up style? Oh, just me? Alrighty, then.
