Menswear Inspired

October 24, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
white cardigan, polka dot chambray, black loafters | NCsquared Life

This entire outfit is from Old Navy | Earrings: Target | Necklace: gift

Today I’m linking up with Bri of Work Clothes, I Suppose for her Third-Thursday Thread series. It’s my first link up so go easy on me! This is my first interpretation of menswear. I think it’s because of the cardigan and loafers. And the button-front under the cardigan. What is it about layering button-fronts and loafers that automatically make you think “menswear”? I guess Chambray also says menswear to me because I think of rugged cowboys/ranch hands when I think of chambray.

I mean, these shoes are adorable! Especially with the gold dot details. I can see why both men and women would want to wear them. Hey, I’m all about freedom of gender expression.

By the way, I’m only slightly embarrassed to realize that this entire outfit is put together of Old Navy pieces. Only slightly.

Leadership Luncheon

October 18, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
maroon sheer blouse, black shirt, leopard flats | NCsquared Life

Top: Old Navy | Skirt: Loft | Belt: Target | Shoes: Payless (old) | Necklace and Earrings: Target

This is the outfit I wore to a Women’s Leadership Luncheon the other day. If it weren’t unseasonably warm here, I would have paired it with a leopard scarf and maybe a black blazer. As for the luncheon, truth be told, I wasn’t impressed with the speaker, as I felt her talk was the exact opposite of leadership but that’s a post for another time. The lunch was pretty tasty, though: tuna salad and a baked potato bar. Plus, it was free so I won’t complain!

Can we just take a moment to talk about this skirt? I am LOVING it. It’s so comfortable and my favorite thing about it is you can dress it up or down. I feel like I can wear it to a luncheon but also pair it with a cute tee and wear it to class. And it has pockets. I love pretty much anything with pockets.

If you look closely, you can almost make out the snake skin pattern on the belt, which adds an interesting texture to the overall outfit.

What would you wear to a leadership luncheon?

And what is your most versatile piece of clothing?

Crazy Pants

October 16, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
denim jacket, gingham Mad Men pants, green sweater | NCsquared Life

There was supposed to be sunshine today, which would have made my photos look much better, but c’est la vie. Instead, you get crazy pants photos! They’re a plaid/gingham pattern (I’m still learning the difference between the two) and were part of the Spring Mad Men collection at Banana Republic. Since I’m wearing this ensemble to class (and because it’s still a little chilly outside from no sun light!), I decided to dress it down a bit by pairing it with the denim jacket.

Bag: Target

The shirt looks blueish but it’s actually a soft kelly green, so I added a green bag to go with the soft green of the shirt; keeping it all in the same color pallet.

Here’s the nice detail of the pants. See, they’re not too crazy. But seriously, don’t stare at this photo too long because it might hurt your eyes!

Close up of the necklace. I LOVE this thing. I get the most complements on it. Apologies, again, for the lighting. This necklace is a slightly darker gray in person. But still beautiful!

What’s the craziest thing in your closet? How often do you wear it?

Pinspiration Jackpot

October 14, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
gap shirt, Limited Blouse, black jeans, black flats | NCsquared Life

Top: The Limited (thrifted) | Button-front: Gap (thrifted) | Pants: Banana Republic | Shoes: Gap | Clutch (in my left hand, which you can barely see): Coach (birthday gift)

Only twice have I purchased a specific item that was featured on a blogger’s website, mostly because I just don’t have enough money to buy everything I see that I like. Back in December, I pinned this awesome outfit from Bows and Sequins because I loved how she paired the sequin shirt with a plaid button-front, making it a little more casual yet still glamorous. I quickly started a search for a sequin shirt so I could recreate this outfit. Almost a year later I still hadn’t found a sequin shirt that I love. Until now!  I’ve driven by this cute little thrift shop on my to the gym for a while and finally decided to stop and go in. After looking over the entire store, I land on the EXACT SEQUIN SHIRT FROM THE PIN! Y’all, I am never this lucky and I felt like I hit the pinspiration jackpot! I snatched it up and purchased it immediately.

My husband and I attended a college football game this weekend, and their colors are red, white, and black, so I decided to wear this outfit. My husband took the first photo and his priority was to get the wolf statue in the background (the school’s mascot) and neglected to get my shoes. I’ve included a photo of them below. They’re just simple little flats.

Have you had any jackpot finds?
