Comfy Linen Shorts

May 25, 2021 by Nikki No Comments

Where have comfy linen shorts been all my life?!

I remember one summer many moons ago when I hated wearing shorts because I thought my legs didn’t look nice enough for them. I, like most people, had these weird hang ups: my legs aren’t toned enough, my knees are too knobby, etc. etc. Then, when I finally got over all of that–because my legs are actually pretty awesome, just like the rest of me–and I did start to wear shorts again, I still hated how short they all were. The 3″ (or less, it seemed) inseam felt like it was always riding up my crotch. But the longer inseams felt too long. (Also, there was a whole summer where I only wore Bermuda shorts, but that’s a story for a different time).

But once I discovered linen shorts, there was no going back. I freakin’ love these things! They’re stylish, they’re comfortable, they can be worn dressed up or down, but mostly THEY’RE COMFORTABLE!

Pay no attention to the cute little dog (aka my shadow) in the background!

Blouse: LOFT | Shorts & Sandals: Old Navy | Denim Jacket: Gap | Jewelry: probably Target | Sunnies: Definitely Target

I picked these up recently and practically live in them. I love the fit, the cute pattern, and they look great on pretty much anyone. That’s not to say that the rest of my cute shorts aren’t in rotation–I actually wore this outfit to take Sebastian to his four-year check up yesterday–but just that I find myself reaching for these first because they’re so great. If you haven’t tried linen shorts yet, please do yourself a favor and go for it! I really don’t think you’ll regret it.

WFHW: Cozy Business Casual

November 12, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work-From-Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Please excuse the distractions on my shelf in this photo but I got some really good lighting by placing the mirror in this position! I’ve been slacking when it comes to getting dressed up for work, but I’m getting back on the ball with it. The desk in my home office sits right beneath the air vent and with the NC weather so warm the last few days, we’ve had the A/C turned on so I’ve been colder than usual during the day. Hence the cute sweater.

Blouse, sweater, and trousers: Banana Republic (all old) | Flats: Target (old)

This outfit is perfect for the office, home office, or any occasion where you need a simple business casual outfit. I love wearing all neutrals and then adding a little bit of interest with the leopard print flats. Those are just for show, though, because I’m not going anywhere and spend most of my time barefoot, which I also love. Oh, and I got a haircut. It was feeling way too long before, but this length and bob/lob style is my favorite. Overall, I’m feeling pretty good!

WFHW: Joggers

September 28, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work-From-Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Joggers are probably THE BEST work-from-home wardrobe piece out there. They’re incredibly comfortable for sitting but can be dressed up for those Zoom video calls. Case in point: these comfy joggers that pair nicely with this pretty Loft blouse. In fact, I think this is my new favorite outfit. Everything about it just works!

Blouse: LOFT via thredUP | Joggers: Old Navy

Since I didn’t really leave my house the day I wore this outfit, I didn’t put on shoes. But if I had, I would have a lot of options to choose from depending on where I was going and what look I was trying to achieve. A pair of flats (black or a nice statement color) or loafers would be cute for a business casual feel while heels would elevate it into an outfit I could wear out for a drink or two (sigh, I sure miss those days!). If I wanted a more casual look, perhaps to run errands, I would grab my cute new white lace-up sneakers.

Also, I’m wearing my dissent collar earrings inspired by RBG–may her memory be for a blessing–that Nick purchased for me last month.

Vacation Vibes

July 3, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

We still have about two months before our actual family vacation, which is a beach trip scheduled for the end of August, but when I got dressed this morning for the start of our three-day weekend, I was definitely feeling those vacation vibes. Especially from this outfit!

Tank: Loft Outlet | Shorts & Espadrilles: Old Navy | Kimono: Spiritual Gangster via FabFitFun | Sunnies: Target

I’m not a brave pattern mixer, but I’m really digging the kimono + espadrille look and these are the only ones I had so I put them together and rolled with it. I think it looks pretty good, especially once you add the hat (bottom photo). We don’t have a whole lot planned this 4th of July, since everything is closed or cancelled, so we’ll probably just grill some hamburgers and hot dogs and play in the awesome inflatable pool we picked up for Sebastian. We’ll also be finishing up our packing since the move to our new house happens early next week. I’ll probably live in this outfit all weekend and I’m really okay with that!

WFHW: Black & Gold

June 1, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Happy Monday and first day of June!

There were several chilly/dreary days this past month, which feels uncommon for North Carolina in May where April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, but here we are. This is what I wore on one of those gray days: a light, maroon sweater with a flowy tank peaking out underneath, black jeans, and gold sandals.

Nikki by example | www.nikkibyexample.comSweater: ModCloth | Tank: Loft Outlet | Jeans: Loft | Slides: Loft Outlet  | Sunnies: Target

Sometimes these slides remind me of something like house slippers, but here I’m loving the black and gold together! Now, let’s please move on to summer so I can put my sweaters away!
