Silly Little Moments

November 22, 2011 by Nikki No Comments

Tonight I’m thankful for the silly little moments I share with my husband. On our way home from the grocery store, we had a hilarious conversation about flatulence. I’m so lucky that Nick has a great sense of humor and that we can laugh over such plain and mundane things.

Some things that we laugh about together:

  • Flatulence. Yes, we’re 10 year olds.
  • Sarcastic jokes
  • Not very pretty babies
  • Me trying to tell a joke, especially corny ones
  • Our dogs. They’re very funny most of the time.

I’ve already mentioned that I’m thankful for laughter. But laughing with someone over special, inside jokes is even better. The cherry on top.

This was taken during the Lykke Li concert. A girl next to us said we were so cute and asked to take a photo of us. We are so cute!

My Kitchen Window

As I was making breakfast one morning, this is what I saw out of my kitchen window. It’s Nick and Mia, playing around outside. And it’s one of my favorite things about my life šŸ™‚

Sushi – My Favorite Meal

November 10, 2011 by Nikki No Comments

SUSHI! Tonight I had dinner with another one of my very dearest friends and we ate what we almost always eat: Sushi. It’s definitely one of my favorite meals ever so tonight I’m definitely thankful for sushi :-)\

I learned most of what I know about Sushi from jut eating it and paying attention to menus and poking around online but I also learned some interesting facts from Alton Brown, who I greatly admire and respect when it comes to food. From him I learned that it is thought that sushi was created about a thousand years go by a little old woman who lived in the woods of Japan. She was sitting down to eat a big pot of rice for dinner when she heard some bandits coming. She climbed into a tree and hid her rice in the nest of a large sea bird so the bandits wouldn’t steal it. When she finally went to retrieve her rice, it had partially fermented and had little bits of fish left by the sea bird. She tasted it, decided it was delicious, and that’s how Sushi was came to be! Cute little story, huh?

Laughter

November 9, 2011 by Nikki 1 Comment

I’m thankful for laughter. It’s just so much fun to do and you know when you’re doing it you’re having fun. What’s not to love about that? It’s also a pretty powerful medicine; even on my crappiest days I’ll start to feel better if I can laugh. Of course that means I have to actually find something funny, but when I do, it makes me feel better.

I happen to have a huge smile and boisterous laugh. Don’t believe me? Just look at this photo (or almost any of my wedding photos):

Yup. This is just the way it is and I wouldn’t change it for anything. So, have you laughed today?

…wait, isn’t that from a cheese commercial? Oops. Oh, well. GET TO LAUGHING! šŸ™‚

Little Blessings

November 5, 2011 by Nikki 1 Comment

I believe that to be truly happy in life you can’t take anything for granted. You have to account for every single blessing, no matter how small. That’s one of the reasons I’ve started these projects – so I don’t lose sight of them. Tonight I’m thankful for all of those little blessing and mostly for the good luck I’ve had that has made it all possible.

Nick and I both have really good jobs that we were able to hold on to through these hard times. Having two incomes has made it possible for us to pay for the beautiful and simple wedding of our dreams, buy a first home which is better than I could have imagined, keep food on our table,Ā  add Mia to our family and provide for her and Chico, and we’re able to entertain ourselves with movies, music, shopping, etc. We’re incredibly lucky to have all that we do. So tonight and EVERY night I am incredibly grateful and I try to give back as much as I can.
