Accessories

October 23, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
beaded sweater, purple scarf, white knit hat, leopard | NCsquared Life

Hat and Scarf: Target | Top: Banana Republic | Jeans: Old Navy | Shoes: Payless (old) |Earrings: Target | Necklace and Bracelet: Old Navy

My favorite place to get accessories is Target. They have a great selection and everything usually holds up really well. I’ve gotten necklaces at certain little jewelry boutiques that barely last a month before the clasp breaks or something falls off, and I know I don’t wear very fancy jewelry but I still want my purchases to last, even if I don’t spend a lot. So Target it is.

I really like wearing this purple scarf with this beige sweater, but I always feel guilty because it covers up the beautiful beaded neckline.

The hat, however, is a must! I’ve tried several different styles of hats and found that the beret style looks best on me. You’ll probably be seeing much more if it, and others, on the blog this Fall and Winter.

Last-Minute Housewarming Gift

October 21, 2013 by Nikki No Comments

We were invited to a housewarming party and needed a last-minute gift that didn’t cost a ton of money. Luckily, Pinterest always comes through and inspired this gift idea, a spaghetti dinner in an oh-so-useful colander. We purchased the colander and filled it with noodles, spaghetti sauce, a small baguette of bread and yummy red wine. Nick is an expert at bow-tying, as you can see, which was the perfect finishing touch.

And no housewarming gift is complete without flowers. Look at this lovely bouquet!

Sunday Morning Serenade

October 20, 2013 by Nikki No Comments

Happy Sunday morning!

Today I’m listening to Brett Dennen’s ‘The One Who Loves You The Most’. It’s a sweet little love song that should be perfect for lifting your spirits a bit. Enjoy!

The Sunday Morning Serenade series is where I present you with music that I like and think would be perfect for listening to while curled up with a hot cup of coffee on a beautiful Sunday morning.

Casual Date Night

October 19, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
blue pull over, feather necklace, orange wedges | NCsquared Life

Top, Jeans, Necklace, and Bracelet: Old Navy | Bag, Sunglasses and Shoes: Target

For date night, Nick and I went to the movies and then to a casual dinner, our favorite (or at least, most frequently occurring) date night activity. He hates horror films, but somehow I was able to convince him to see the remake of Carrie. The movie was decent. Chloe Grace Moretz did a good job as Carrie, but I think Julianne Moore stole the show as Carrie’s uptight, albeit a little crazy, mother.  He’s never seen the original but I assured  him it was better.

I’m still not sure where Autumn is around here. It was in the low 70s and, even though I brought a jacket, I didn’t really need it.

Seriously, how cute is this necklace?

Leadership Luncheon

October 18, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
maroon sheer blouse, black shirt, leopard flats | NCsquared Life

Top: Old Navy | Skirt: Loft | Belt: Target | Shoes: Payless (old) | Necklace and Earrings: Target

This is the outfit I wore to a Women’s Leadership Luncheon the other day. If it weren’t unseasonably warm here, I would have paired it with a leopard scarf and maybe a black blazer. As for the luncheon, truth be told, I wasn’t impressed with the speaker, as I felt her talk was the exact opposite of leadership but that’s a post for another time. The lunch was pretty tasty, though: tuna salad and a baked potato bar. Plus, it was free so I won’t complain!

Can we just take a moment to talk about this skirt? I am LOVING it. It’s so comfortable and my favorite thing about it is you can dress it up or down. I feel like I can wear it to a luncheon but also pair it with a cute tee and wear it to class. And it has pockets. I love pretty much anything with pockets.

If you look closely, you can almost make out the snake skin pattern on the belt, which adds an interesting texture to the overall outfit.

What would you wear to a leadership luncheon?

And what is your most versatile piece of clothing?
