I’ve been blogging for several years now — even thought it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s been that long — and I was curious as to just how much my style has changed over those years. It’s always interesting to go back through the blog to see my outfits and the way I’ve evolved from year to year.Nikki by example | www.nikkibyexample.com

Reflections: I don’t see much of a change, except for my hair! I’m not surprised to see denim, some trendy styles like the frayed-hem jeans and the crochet-front top. What I think is interesting here, and probably why I don’t see a big difference in these outfits, is that I still have all of these pieces, probably because they’re all pretty classic. Even the trendy pieces are so trendy that they’re time has passed. In fact, we’re seeing some trends come back already, like the boot cut jeans I’m currently wearing. When I was in undergrad, EVERY girl was wearing boot cut (or super flared) jeans with ballet flats or flip flops, and once I started seeing/wearing skinny jeans everywhere, I figured boot cuts were gone for good. Yet, here we are, wearing our boot cuts the way they were meant to be worn: with heels!  Do you think about your style evolution? Is it different or similar to what you were wearing 4 years ago?

2018: Back to Boot Cut

The day started off pretty rough — check out my IntaStories to see how my car rolled into a fence this morning — but that’s just par for the week. Lots of things have gone wrong or been more difficult than necessary but we’ve powered through and it’s almost over. Hopefully, life will get back on track after the weekend. Also, I love that this top is perfect for spring or fall, and that boot cut jeans are back. Happy Casual Fall Friday!

2017 Original Post: Date Night with Baby

Most of the breweries where are I live are very dog- and family-friendly, and many of them have areas separate from the bar where parents can gather with their friends and kids to have a beer and play a few board games. Some of them even have nice outdoor spaces where kids can run around while parents hang out with their pals. I’m thankful for this because it allows Nick and me to go out for a last-minute drink without having to find a babysitter, which is what we did when I wore this outfit!

I love this shirt so much that I want to wear it all the time and I almost do but I’m afraid of wearing it too often or doing something much worse, like staining/ripping/ultimately destroying it so I talk yourself out of it almost every single time. Man, it really is a great shirt!

2014 Original Post: When I Really Like an Outfit

I think you can tell when I really like an outfit by the number of photos I post of it. The more comfortable I feel in my clothes, the more I like the outfit and the more photos I take. I think clothes can really enhance your confidence and, for me, it shows because I get a lot of cute pictures out of it. This is one of those outfits.
