Beading

April 15, 2015 by Nikki 5 Comments

Beading | NCsquared Life

How gorgeous is the beading on this tank? I fell for it as soon as I saw it. It’s a little heavier than a normal tank with all the beading and it *kind of* feels like I’m wearing a suit of armor (or at least that chain/mesh hand glove they use at restaurants when cutting meat), but it’s so pretty.

I wore this outfit for dinner at our house. Nick invited his coworker and coworker’s girlfriend over for dinner because they are in town from Argentina. It was such a fun night, and I really enjoyed learning about their culture. It’s so different and yet so similar to our own here in the U.S. It also made me realize how much I miss speaking Spanish and learning about other cultures so I might start taking some classes and make more of an effort to immerse myself so that I can be fluent again. It’s true that if you don’t use it you lose it. Stay in school, kids.

Guest Posting & Friday Four #3

February 20, 2015 by Nikki 4 Comments

Hey everyone, I’m guest posting over at Work Clothes, I Suppose today while Bri is on her fabulous honeymoon, so be sure to head over there to see what I put together as a potential interview outfit! But since you’re here, I’ll answer this week’s Friday Four, a fun survey I’m doing so that my readers can get to know me a little better.

Guest Posting - Interview Outfit | NCsquared Life

This week’s question is four movies I’ve watched more than once. Basically, these are my four favorite movies!

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar: Long and strange name, but extremely funny movie! The movie is about three drag queens (played hilariously by Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo) travel cross-country until their car breaks down, leaving them stranded in a small town. It’s funny and heart-warming and has lines that I still quote to this day. My dog, Chico, is a black chihuahua mix and one of my favorite things to say to him is from the movie, “Little Latin boy in drag, why are you crying?” HI-LA-RIOUS!

Where The Heart Is: Young Natalie Portman and a great story. “A pregnant 17-year-old rebuilds her life after being abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma” -IMBD. I’ve been meaning to read the book and as soon as have more free time, I will. But I watched the movie in the theater with my best friend and her mom when I was in  middle school. I don’t know what it is about it, but I really love it and every month or so I get a craving to watch it. Good thing I own it on DVD!  “You feel that? That little bom-bom-bom? That’s where the heart is.”

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: “When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. But it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.” – IMDB. In my humble opinion, this is THE BEST love story ever. It reminds you that you that true love persists through all of the bad times and that makes the good times even more worth it. Meet me in Montauk .

Pitch Perfect: I’m a big fan of Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, and Anna Kendrick. So, when I saw the trailer for Pitch Perfect, I wanted to watch it regardless of whether it was good or bad so I talked Nick into seeing it at the theater with me. As it turned out, WE LOVED IT. Then it came on HBO and we watched it almost every single time it came on. Then we bought it on DVD and made our friends watch it. Turns out, they loved it, too! I bought it for my sister-in-law for her birthday and SHE loved it. My brother (who is VERY critical of movies) really liked it. If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s worth it to get Pitch Slapped!

What are your favorite movies?

Four Days Straight

December 23, 2014 by Nikki No Comments

Black and White All Over | NCsquared Life

This is another simple outfit that looks so put together that I lived in it for four days straight (I kid you not). I wore it to run errands, to the grocery store, to work, to class, to dinner,  to the grocery store again, and basically anywhere I went within the span of a week. Of course, during those four days, those are the only things I did outside of my home. The rest of the time I was lounging in my pajamas, writing essays and studying for final exams. So each time I wore it, I was only in for a few hours, tops. Also, I think it’s a shame when you create a simple-but-perfect outfit and don’t wear it more than once! More than a shame, really… it should be a crime! 🙂

P.S. To give credit where credit is due, this outfit was inspired by Audrey’s (from Putting Me Together) 2014 Fall packing guide.

Pinterest Outfit

December 22, 2014 by Nikki 4 Comments

Happy Monday! I call this my ‘Pinterest Outfit’ because the day I wore it to work, a girl told me I looked like I stepped right out of a Pinterest board. I’m not going to lie, it made me feel pretty good. I’m sure it’s the necklace and the red coat (photos below) that made it feel so Pinterest-y but it works. I also think this is my favorite outfit because it feels very me. It’s simple yet classy and put together, and that’s how I like to think of myself.

I’ve realized over the last few months that my style preferences are changing and I’m drawn to more neutral, classic pieces. Actually, my preferences seem to be doing a bit of a 360 because I’m finding myself gravitating toward pieces and outfits I liked before I started blogging. I’m amazed, actually, at how much I let blogging influence my style decisions. I was constantly trying to convince myself that I needed to step out of my comfort zone and try to be like the other bloggers. After I realized that I didn’t like getting dressed and that I didn’t have to be like the other girls (because we all have something beautiful and unique to offer), I started stepping back into my comfort zone and getting dressed got instantly easier. So, if I have any advice to give to anyone, it would be this: stay true to yourself!

I’ve been wanting a red coat for a while now, and I finally found this one. It’s perfect. My last coat lasted at least 7-8 years, which is amazing, but the lining started to rip and it was getting old so I thought it was a good time to invest in a new one for the next 7-8 years. And doesn’t the red look great with the navy and gray?

Foxy Lady

November 17, 2014 by Nikki 3 Comments

Fox Sweater & Midi Skirt | NCsquared Life

One good thing about the weather turning cold is new opportunities to re-wear my cute sweaters. Exhibit A: this fox sweater. I feel like everyone and their mom coveted this sweater (or one like it)  last year so I feel lucky that I was able to snag one, and  I think I only wore it a few times last year before the season was over. I’ve worn it with a short black skirt before and it looked great so I thought it would look equally as good with this midi skirt. And, I was right!

I wore this outfit to work and then to class. I felt super cute and classy, even when I had to change out of the heels and into little black flats by the end of the day.
