Classy Neutrals

June 5, 2014 by Nikki 6 Comments

Classy Neutrals | NCsquared Life

For the rest of the summer, I’ll be spending my Mondays at the pediatric clinic for my internship. I wanted to look legit, so this is what I wore on my first day there. It was really chilly in the morning so the sweater was perfect. And I went with neutrals because they’re just so classy. At the clinic, I was briefly mistaken for an interpreter, which is cool because I do speak Spanish, although not as well as I used to, so I probably can’t really interpret as much as awkwardly communicate in present tense. I also wore flats because I figured I would be on my feet most of the day so I wanted to be comfortable.

This bag is great because it fits my laptop, notebook, text book, AND planner without being too bulky. It also has a removeable cross-body strap, which is really convenient when I’m carrying all that stuff in it and my shoulder feels like it’s going to fall off from all the weight. That happens a lot. I actually carry A LOT of bags when I’m at school and my friends jokingly call me the bag lady. I usually have my book bag, my purse, an extra bag to carry the stuff that wouldn’t fit in my book bag, and my lunch bag. Life is hard, y’all.

Last Summer

Last Summer | NCsquared Life

School’s out for summer! Just kidding, I start my internship and an environmental health class in less than two weeks, but that means I have over a week to *not* do school work. I’ll take it!

So, this was my favorite outfit last summer.  Most of my summer/warm weather outfits will be from last year because I haven’t been summer shopping yet, nor do I have much cash to do so. The good thing is I wasn’t blogging last summer so it’ll all be new to y’all! Also, shorts and tees will never go out of style. Add a hat and you’re golden. Speaking ot hats, this one is shaped funny because it spent about 6 hours smooshed under a heavy bag during a road trip to Illinois last year and it never really recovered. Does anyone have any advice on how to take the bump out?

One reason this was my favorite outfit is because these shorts are so comfortable, super cute and very versatile. Tie that t-shirt to add a little interest and you’re even more golden 😉

Feeling Edgy

Feeling Edgy | NCsquared Life

There’s something about these harem pants that make me feel edgy, even though they’re really tame compared to some  pants out there. Fun fact – when I’m feeling edgy, I wear my hair in a messy bun and put a bump in my bangs. I think I’ve said it before but these pants are so comfortable and I love dressing them up. I was going to wear this outfit to class but it rained, so I changed because I hate wet feet when my feet aren’t supposed to be wet! I can’t wait to wear this out to dinner or maybe to a show. OR even to class when it stops raining. Seriously, it seems like every Tuesday for the past 3 months has given us crappy weather, be it snow or rain, or just plain cold. Maybe someday my friends on campus will get to see this outfit. Until then, my internet friends will get to enjoy my edge.

1 Piece 3 Ways: Striped Top

1 Piece 3 Ways: Striped Top | NCsquared Life

Today I’m linking up with Work Clothes I Suppose and the theme is remix! So I’m showing one piece worn three ways. I practically lived in this top this past weekend so I thought it was a great candidate for the link up. I wore the first outfit for a day of shopping and running errands. Then I changed into these drapey/almost harem pants and heels to go to a small dinner party at a friend’s house. I wore the last outfit while travelling on our last daycation this past August.

When I first picked up this top, I couldn’t tell if the stripes were black or navy blue. Honestly, I still can’t tell so I wear it both ways!  Click through to see more photos and information about the three ways I’ve worn this top. Which outfit do you like best?

A Fake Suit and Floral Blouse

March 6, 2014 by Nikki 9 Comments

Fake Suit with a Floral Blouse | NCsquared Life

This is not a suit. It looks likes one, though, which is great because it works really well as a spring/summer interview or office outfit without having to spend a ton of money on an actual suit. All you need is black crop trousers (or slacks) and a black blazer, and just about any blouse would look excellent with it. The secret is to make sure the blacks match as closely as possible. For this outfit, both the blazer and trousers are from Banana Republic so I was pretty confident they would be the same color.

By the way, I’m loving this blouse. Nick picked it out and surprised me with it and it’s perfect for spring, really comfortable, and really versatile. I can’t wait to wear and style it more.
