As part of my attempt to update my closet so that it reflects my current life and the person I am now instead the person I was four+ years ago, I’m wearing certain pieces one last time to determine if they have a place in my new lifestyle. This navy and white polka dot skirt is one of those pieces that I liked but I wasn’t wearing; it hung in my closet for several years, every day getting passed over. So, it’s on the chopping block; I’m wearing it today to decide whether I keep it or donate it, and I decided to recreate/update an outfit I’ve worn before with this skirt.

I’m pretty sure the last time I wore this skirt was in the first photo, which was four years ago! Here are my thoughts on it today: there was a point in my life – during and right after graduate school – where I gained some weight so this skirt was very snug. VERY snug. But now, about three years later, it’s actually a little bit too big in the waist and a little too long, hitting at a weird length at my knees. Wearing the sweater untucked hides how far I have to hike this thing up for it to fall right above my knees where I like it, but tucking my sweater gives all my secrets away.

It’s a cute outfit, but I just can’t see myself wearing this skirt anymore. It doesn’t fit great, it’s too long, and other than a white shirt, there’s nothing else I’d want to wear with it. So, I think it’s time has come and it will be donated. Thank you, navy and white polka dot skirt, for your service in helping me create a cute outfit. I hope someone else gets just as much, if not more, joy out of you. Au revoir!
