Maxi Dress

July 26, 2017 by Nikki 14 Comments

Nikki by example

I think I’m going to start a new series called “A Short Girl Wears… ” because there are a lot of fashion styles and trends that sometimes only work for us shorties when we put in some effort.

Take maxi dresses, for example. When you stand just over 5 feet tall, it’s hard to find a cute maxi dress that doesn’t drag the floor and trip you up every five steps, so they often have to be hemmed. I was delighted to find that the length of this maxi dress was pretty much perfect sans alteration! Well, I did have to have the shoulders hemmed because they were too long, but that’s a common problem I have as someone who has a high waist.

Short Girl Wears a Blanket Scarf

December 6, 2016 by Nikki 11 Comments

Short Girl Wears a Blanket Scarf | NCsquared Life

Blanket scarfs are so cozy, aren’t they? They’re also huge so I almost passed up on this trend because I thought it would weigh me down. Jean from Extra Petite convinced me to give it a try, though, when she posted her video showing a few different ways to style to it. She’s actually about an inch shorter than me (while her style sense is miles above mine) so I figured if she can make it work then so could I. Her video is really helpful so even if you’re not a shorty like me, I would recommend it. I’ve found that the trick is not only in the fold (fold it in half first) but also in rolling it a few times so it isn’t quite as long. All that folding and rolling does leave it feeling a bit bulky so I usually save the blanket scarf for those really cold days when I need the extra warmth.

Black Midi Skirt | NCsquared Life

I figured it would be really long and make me look even shorter than I already am, so I scoured the comments for every post by a person that was remotely close to my size (and bonus if she included a picture) so I could get an idea of what it would look like, but I still wasn’t sure. After receiving an email that they were almost sold out, I took the plunge and ordered it. When I finally got it and tried it on, I was surprised to find that it fit so much better than I had expected. Score! And it has pockets! Double Score! And the skirt came with the belt. Triple Score!
