Shorts & T-shirts

June 8, 2021 by Nikki No Comments

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably read/heard me say that I’ve never really been a t-shirt-and-jeans kind of girl but I’ve recently discovered that I definitely AM a t-shirt-and-shorts kind of gal! Especially with these linen paper-bag type shorts. This outfit was so easy to put together and so comfortable that I wore it out to run errands that included grocery shopping.

T-shirt: Old Navy | Shorts: H&M | Slides: Loft Outlet | Jewelry: Target

You can’t see it in the photo, but the sleeve of my shirt has a really cute embroidered floral detail that adds a little something extra to an otherwise plain t-shirt. I’ve included the photo from Old Navy’s website below to give you an idea of what it looks like.

You can barely make out the cute floral detail on the sleeves, but it really does look nice!

And I liked it so much that I bought another on in a copper color, which would also look great with these shorts. Maybe I’ll try that combo next!

Comfy Linen Shorts

May 25, 2021 by Nikki No Comments

Where have comfy linen shorts been all my life?!

I remember one summer many moons ago when I hated wearing shorts because I thought my legs didn’t look nice enough for them. I, like most people, had these weird hang ups: my legs aren’t toned enough, my knees are too knobby, etc. etc. Then, when I finally got over all of that–because my legs are actually pretty awesome, just like the rest of me–and I did start to wear shorts again, I still hated how short they all were. The 3″ (or less, it seemed) inseam felt like it was always riding up my crotch. But the longer inseams felt too long. (Also, there was a whole summer where I only wore Bermuda shorts, but that’s a story for a different time).

But once I discovered linen shorts, there was no going back. I freakin’ love these things! They’re stylish, they’re comfortable, they can be worn dressed up or down, but mostly THEY’RE COMFORTABLE!

Pay no attention to the cute little dog (aka my shadow) in the background!

Blouse: LOFT | Shorts & Sandals: Old Navy | Denim Jacket: Gap | Jewelry: probably Target | Sunnies: Definitely Target

I picked these up recently and practically live in them. I love the fit, the cute pattern, and they look great on pretty much anyone. That’s not to say that the rest of my cute shorts aren’t in rotation–I actually wore this outfit to take Sebastian to his four-year check up yesterday–but just that I find myself reaching for these first because they’re so great. If you haven’t tried linen shorts yet, please do yourself a favor and go for it! I really don’t think you’ll regret it.

Wearing Shorts to Work

August 18, 2017 by Nikki 4 Comments

I’m a little jealous of Nick because he gets to wear shorts to work. Like, every single day. And not just for his current job but the one before that, too. I guess I understand it. Their work is online so I suppose there’s no need to dress to impress… there’s no one to impress but each other.

Taking a page from his book, I decided to wear these shorts to my own office. I figured if any office would allow it, it would an awesome nonprofit and if any shorts would be appropriate, it would be these. They’re classy and fancy and about the same length as any skirt I would feel comfortable wearing. When you pair them with a bright top and heels, you get a nice, polished look. I think I look pretty darn cute, and no one at my office complained.

Also, I got a haircut! I love this length and think I’ll stick to it for a while.

Anyway, happy Friday everyone! It’s been a long week and I’m ready for the freedom of the weekend. We’re thinking about painting our bathroom tomorrow – a project we’ve been meaning to do for years. I’m not even kidding, we’ve had two paint swatches on our bathroom wall for several years now. Here’s to hoping we can follow through this time.

Shirt, Shorts, and Shoes: Banana Republic | Necklace & Bracelet: Old Navy | Watch: Target | Handbag: Anne Klein via Belk

P.S. I could be a walking ad for Banana Republic in this outfit. I didn’t plan it, but all the pieces are from BR. Hey Banana, please pay me to be your real-life model?

The Perfect Shorts

July 28, 2017 by Nikki 6 Comments

When I say that these are the perfect shorts, I mean it. They’re stylish (I can pair them with just about every shirt in my closet), they’re comfortable (not too short), and they don’t look too bad all wrinkled! I used to hate wearing shorts in the summer because they always felt too short so I’m getting a lot of use out of these. I love them so much that I have to make myself not reach for them every time I leave the house in the evenings/on weekends.

How cute is this necklace? It was my very first Mother’s Day gift from Nick and he did a really good job, even though I picked it out 😉 I wish the chain was slightly shorter so I’ve been looking for a new one without much luck. I often have that problem with necklaces: instead of an extender, I need a shortener. Such are the perils of being a short person.

I tied my t-shirt to give the outfit a little more visual interest. I think I like tying my shirts more than doing the half tuck because the tie seems to look better on me, with the short torso and all.

Chambray Shorts

August 20, 2015 by Nikki 5 Comments

Chambray Shorts | NCsquared Life

I’m a scarf-draping fool lately! Did you notice that all of the colors in this outfit match perfectly? I was inspired by the colors in the scarf and the result was this light pink tee paired with chambray shorts.  I love that adding a scarf gives you an extra layer of interest without the added bulkiness of a vest or jacket, because when it’s this hot outside, bulkiness is the last thing you want. I’m also not entire sure these shorts are actually chambray but they look and feel like it so, that’s good enough for me.

I wore this outfit a few weekends ago while I was hanging out at my parents’ house and then on the ride back to Durham so unfortunately, no one saw it’s cuteness. Or it could be fortunate that no one really saw it because that means I can wear it again soon!
