Graphic Tee

September 16, 2014 by Nikki 3 Comments

Graphic Tee + Blazer | NCsquared Life

Graphic tees are all the rage and this is my take on it. I have been known to buy lots of these little baby doll tees from TeeFury, a website that features a new design every day. When I first started shopping there a few years ago, they would only sell one design per day and it was no longer available after that 24-hour period. These days, they keep a gallery so you can shop around and buy multiple tees. I’m a sucker for these kinds of shirts because they fit so well and they’re comfortable. When I was in undergrad I wore them all the time, but I haven’t really w them outside of my house lately. I’m glad they’re becoming ever more stylish because I have a ton of them that I can wear more often.

I was drawn to the colors in this one; they’re beautiful and make the tee so versatile because I can wear it with a range of cardigans and blazers.

One Outfit, Two Pairs of Shoes

September 15, 2014 by Nikki 6 Comments

One Outfit, Two Pairs of Shoes | NCsquared Life

I often have trouble deciding what shoes to wear with an outfit. Sometimes it’s because part of me wants comfort while the other part wants style and, honestly, not every shoe I have gives me both. Sometimes it’s because two different but similar shoes look good with the outfit. That’s what happened when I put this look together! I had two pairs of cognac shoes, both with heels, and both looked great with this outfit.

The oxfords were the shoes I originally had in mind when I saw this outfit in my head. I think it’s a great fall transitional look, when the weather is starting to cool down, oh so slightly, so that it’s still warm enough for shorts but cool enough that you can wear a long sleeved shirt without melting into a pool of sweat.

Of course, the same can be said for spring, which is when I would normally wear these sandals. I decided to try them with the outfit because I’ve seen a lot of bloggers wear heels with shorts, which is a bit outside of my comfort zone but I wanted to try it anyway. I think the result is gorgeous!

I love both pairs of shoes and, even more, I love both pair with this simple outfit. So how do I decide which ones to wear? Which ones would you wear?

A Little Fall Preview

September 10, 2014 by Nikki 6 Comments

Fall Preview | NCsquared Life

Like any good college student, as soon as I received my loan reimbursement, I went on a little shipping spree. I stocked up on a few Fall things from Banana Republic, including this chambray top and burgundy box pleat skirt. I imagined wearing this outfit with black tights but it’s still too hot for tights, so this will just have to be a little Fall preview. I’ve been looking for a new chambray because the only one I had previously had polka dots on it, which is cute, but I wanted a plain one. And I love that this skirt has pockets. I’m not sure how I feel about wearing this with ankle boots without tights; it feels like something is off or missing. What do you think? Are there other shoes I could pair this with to make it look better? Or are the boots on point? Internet friends, please help me dress myself! 🙂

I knew I had to have both of these pieces when I tried them on together in the dressing room and they looked so good together. Also, it was such a gray day out when we took these photos that this dressing room photo has better color:

Adding a Completer Piece

September 9, 2014 by Nikki 4 Comments

Adding a Completer Piece | NCsquared Life

If I’m going to wear something to work in an office, my general rule is to throw a blazer on it! My office has a very lax dress code so I don’t have to dress professionally (and a few times I haven’t, I’ve just worn shorts and a tee shirt because it was so hot outside) but I usually prefer to dress less casually when I’m in an office setting. So, to dress up this flowy tank a bit (where I last wore it for a date night) I threw this blazer on it. Adding a completer piece, even if it’s just an unstructured blazer like this one, makes me feel much more put together.

A Short Girl Wears a Midi Skirt

September 8, 2014 by Nikki 16 Comments

Black Midi Skirt | NCsquared Life

And it looks pretty good! I was eyeing this skirt on ModCloth for several weeks because I really wanted it but I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. I figured it would be really long and make me look even shorter than I already am, so I scoured the comments for every post by a person that was remotely close to my size (and bonus if she included a picture) so I could get an idea of what it would look like, but I still wasn’t sure. After receiving an email that they were almost sold out, I took the plunge and ordered it. When I finally got it and tried it on, I was surprised to find that it fit so much better than I had expected. Score! And it has pockets! Double Score! And the skirt came with the belt. Triple Score!
