Dress: Market & Spruce via Stitch Fix | Wedges: J. Crew Factory | Sunnies: Target

On Wednesday, Nick and I took the day off of work to celebrate his upcoming birthday. We decided we would go to a fancy spa nearby and pamper ourselves with couple’s massages, relaxation, and a fancy lunch. This cute little Market & Spruce dress I got from my latest Stitch Fix is what I wore. The spa day sounded great in theory but, what I didn’t expect when I got there was just how out of my element I would feel in that setting. You see, I’m from a working class family where I was taught that your work ethic should be strong and the little luxuries were buying the name-brand cereal. Taking a whole day (or even half a day) to sit around in fancy robes and sip citrus water elixirs while harps played in the background was unheard of.

At the spa, I started out feeling like I didn’t really belong. Spas are for old, rich women and I am neither of those things. But my therapist has been working with me to accumulate positives instead of always focusing on negatives – an unfortunate thought distortion from my anxiety. So I reminded myself that this is a treat that Nick and I had worked hard to give ourselves and that there is nothing wrong with taking time to relax and just let your body be. This fast-paced world that we live in tells us we should always be moving, going, busy with work and home, etc. In the end, I really did enjoy our spa day. It *was* a nice experience and I’m glad I took some time to relax and pamper my body. And I got to wear this cute dress!

We got there around 8:30 am and took a tour of the facilities since we had never visited them before. Then we changed into our fancy robes, had our relaxing couples massages (thanks, Andrea and Diana), and then we just lounged around the meditation garden for about half an hour, drinking lemon water and ginger elixirs to rehydrate. We decided to get dressed – back into this cute dress for me! – and head to the pool bar for a drink before our lunch reservations. You can see that cute post-massage glow I had going on in the photo below. I didn’t think we would have enough time for the pool so I didn’t bring a swimsuit, but in hindsight, it would have been nice to take a quick dip so I’ll definitely be spending some time in that water if we go back. We had a nice lunch and then Nick went back to work while I came home and relaxed some more. I take my relaxing very seriously now! 😉

Just look at that post-massage glow!

Anyway, it was a fun day and I can’t wait to do it again!
