WFHW: Culottes

July 2, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

I remember wearing cheap cotton culottes/gauchos in undergrad. They were comfortable, like pajamas, and easy to style so wearing them to class was a no-brainer. I like no-brainers! While culottes are nice, much like midi skirts, they’re very hard for a short girl like me to pull off. But I decided to give these a try because they came sized in petite, which means they should have a shorter inseam. I asked Nick if I should get them hemmed and he said, no. I thought they looked just a tad too long in the photos (and my mirror, apparently), but when I saw my reflection in another mirror, they looked pretty good.

I think they look best with heels because the heels help to elongate my legs a bit, as you can see from the first two photos. But they also look pretty cute with my cute espadrilles or gold slides.

When I first pulled these pants out of the shipping bag and tried them on, I thought the legs were a bit too wide. But after reading about the design aesthetic of culottes and learning that they are supposed to have a full cut to resemble a skirt, I realize that do look really good. I’m definitely starting to get a little more bold in my style choices. There was a time not long ago that I would have put these on and thought I looked dumpy and sent them back. But I like them so I’m letting go of any self-conscious worries I might have and embracing what I like. And man does it feel good!

What do you think of culottes? Would you ever wear them?

WFHW: Floral Tank

July 1, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

I told myself at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown that with our upcoming move that I should hold off on purchasing things so we could save some money and have less to pack and move BUT I kind of decided I wanted to purchase a few more things to round out my spring and summer wardrobe. So I bought this floral tank and some cute wide-leg cropped culottes from Loft and a pair of shoes from Old Navy to go with them. That outfit will make it’s debut a little later on the blog but I loved this flora tank so much that I wanted to wear it right away. So I did. Because apparently I just do whatever I want 😀

Once upon a time, I hated these thin-strapped tanks because I didn’t like wearing strapless bras and I hated when my bra strap was visible. I’ve definitely gotten over both of those things and will wear my tanks all the time. And I’m glad I did get over it because look at how cute this outfit is without the tank. Plus, it’s already too hot out there for sleeves!

Well, dear readers, this will likely be the last week you see all of my backgrounds that you’ve come to know from my account because it’s the last week in our house before the move. Soon, you’ll see a new background. I’m not even sure what it will be yet so we’ll discover it together.

WFHW: Overalls

June 22, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

These overalls were a total impulse buy. I don’t do that often, but I’ve been watching a lot of Home Town on HGTV these past few months and sometimes Erin Napier wears overalls and I thought, dang, I need some overalls. So I bought these. Then I wondered if it was appropriate for a 35-year-old woman to wear overalls because it has been a LONG time since I’ve worn a pair. Spoiler: of course it is!

So, here I am trying them on when they first arrived (please ignore the lazy puppers on the messy bed):

Overalls: Old Navy | Sweater: Banana Republic (old)

And here’s how I actually styled them during the week last week with a cute floral blouse and blue slides:

I usually think of overalls as a Fall staple but they’re also good for spring and summer. The rainy, cooler temperatures we had last week provided great encouragement to break these babies out and give ’em a wear. I already can’t wait to wear them again!

WFHW: Floral Pants Version 1

May 5, 2020 by Nikki No Comments

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

I mentioned a few posts ago that I spent a little time doing some online shopping to spruce up my spring wardrobe a bit. One of my purchases was these floral pants. They’re high-waited, wide-legged, belted, thin and soft. I wasn’t sure how they would work for a shorty like me but they’re quickly becoming my go-to for working at home because they’re so comfortable and versatile. I can dress them up or down, and they’re pretty nice to just lounge in!

I think I’ve worn them in at least three or four different outfits now, so this is just the tip of the floral-pants iceberg! I’ll definitely be wearing these to the office when it opens back up.

WFHW: Floral

Here’s the next outfit in my Work From Home Wardrobe Series where I display the cute outfits I’m wearing while working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Even though this is an outfit that I would totally wear to the office, it’s comfortable enough to wear at home, too! The jeans are stretchy, the blouse is very light, and the cardigan is perfect for a blasting air conditioner (both at the office and at home – yes, it gets cold here in the summer when Nick gets his way). Sometimes I like to feel dressed up at home. This was another day where I had several video meetings so I fixed up my hair and make up a little bit. Not a bad look for home!

I took this photo after returning from a walk with the dogs, that’s why I have shoes on. Otherwise, I prefer barefeet or slippers.
