Fall in the Spring

May 27, 2015 by Nikki 6 Comments

Fall in the Spring | NCsquared Life

The best thing about this floral tank is that the colors in it match almost every cardigan and blazer in my closet. I’ve worn it once already with a plum cardigan and navy cropped trousers to a baby shower. This time I kept it a bit more casual and wore this outfit to dinner. I spent the day babysitting the two most adorable one-year-olds on the planet, but I wore these jeans and a gray t-shirt. When I got home, I wanted to wear something nice to dinner so I changed into this tank and mustard cardi, ad the result is really cute. Is mustard a fall or spring color? Or both? Oh, who cares, I wear it year-round! And this outfit will be put on repeat for the rest of the summer.

P.S. I’m loving these d’orsay pumps. They’re perfect for everything!

Real Life vs. Blog Life

May 14, 2015 by Nikki 1 Comment

Real Life vs. Blog Life | NCsquared Life

I think it’s really important for my blog that I show outfits that I actually wear. I also want my outfits to look good, but I feel like I struggle with being “trendy” and heels with everything feels very trendy right now. I love how the heels look with these skinny jeans and the necklace of the same color, and this is definitely something I’d wear on a night out or for a special occasion, but to be completely honest, I wouldn’t wear heels to the grocery store. I’d definitely choose flats to run errands or to grab lunch with Nick. So, the truth is I did wear this outfit to lunch with Nick one day last week BUT with the flats I wore with this outfit.

But this outfit is so cute that I’ll come up with a reason to wear it. Or I’ll wear the heels to the grocery store because it’s so darn good. Maybe sometimes you just have to make those sacrifices šŸ˜‰

Coral Blazer & Casual Peplum

May 13, 2015 by Nikki 4 Comments

Coral Blazer & Casual Peplum | NCsquared Life

I’m going to go ahead and say it: this is my new favorite outfit. It has definitely become a go-to for just about everything. I wore it to one of my last days of classes/work before I graduated, I’ve worn it for running errands, and I even changed into wedges and wore it to the Walk the Moon concert I went to a few weeks ago (grainy instagram picture below). I love how simple yet put together it is.

Once again, I’m wearing a coral and blue color combination. I can’t get enough of it.

I’m sure you’ve seen these shoes all over the place, since they’re adorable and from Target. I have to say that I’m very upset with Target, as it seems that they’ve stopped carrying my shoe size in many of their brands. I usuallly wear a 5.5, but depending on the brand/fit, I can wear a 6. Luckily, I was able to wear a 6 in these cute flats. Otherwise, I would be very upset and have no other choice but to write Target a strongly-worded letter!

Here I am enjoying the VIP perks at the Walk the Moon show. Early entry, comfy seats, and the bar comes to you… I will never not be VIP ever again! Also, I was the only person there wearing a blazer but that’s just how I roll!

Beading

April 15, 2015 by Nikki 5 Comments

Beading | NCsquared Life

How gorgeous is the beading on this tank? I fell for it as soon as I saw it. It’s a little heavier than a normal tank with all the beading and it *kind of* feels like I’m wearing a suit of armor (or at least that chain/mesh hand glove they use at restaurants when cutting meat), but it’s so pretty.

I wore this outfit for dinner at our house. Nick invited his coworker and coworker’s girlfriend over for dinner because they are in town from Argentina. It was such a fun night, and I really enjoyed learning about their culture. It’s so different and yet so similar to our own here in the U.S. It also made me realize how much I miss speaking Spanish and learning about other cultures so I might start taking some classes and make more of an effort to immerse myself so that I can be fluent again. It’s true that if you don’t use it you lose it. Stay in school, kids.

Coffee, Straight Up

March 17, 2015 by Nikki No Comments

Coffee, Straight Up | NCsquared Life

I love coffee. It wasn’t always this way; I used to think it smelled great but tasted gross. Why couldn’t it just taste the way it smelled? In undergrad, I had a few 8 AM classes so I bought a small coffee maker, thinking it would help me wake up and get to class on time. I probably only used it three or four times my entire undergrad career. That all changed when I was about 26 years old and started working as a communications assistantĀ at a non-profitĀ in a few towns over, requiring at least an hour commute, one-way. I had to get up really early to try to beat the rush-hour traffic on the interstate so I pulled out that little coffee maker and my love affair began.

Over the years, I’veĀ developed my palate and learned that I like really strong coffee with a touch of cream and sugar. Maybe the t-shirt is a little misleading because I rarely drink it black, but if it’s *good* coffee (my personal favorite is Counter Culture here in Durham) I’ll drink it straight up!

As far as the outfit, I wanted to jump on the graphic tee train so I purchased this one because I do love coffee so much and because I have a lot of plans for it as inspired by Pinterest. Now that it’s getting warmer, I can’t wait to recreate some of those Pinterest looks. I wore this outfit to the dealership to get the oil changed in my car, and the guy still thought I was only about 21-22 years old. I don’t look THAT young, do I?
