Outfit Planning

July 20, 2015 by Nikki 11 Comments

I spent some time this weekend putting some outfits together for the coming week, and probably just to have on hand for those days when I don’t really feel like getting dressed. This first one is a great one to wear to the office, but I don’t have one of those yet! That’s why it’s photographed as a flat lay instead of as an outfit that I’m wearing. But it’s super cute and I can’t wait to wear it, whether it’s to an office or some other event. I also paired two different shoes with it. I love having options so that I don’t feel limited, but then having too many options can make me feel overwhelmed. I think I would probably wear the brown sandal with this outfit instead of the snake skin heels.

I did some unexpected shopping at a cute little boutique in Durham and purchased a few things without meaning to. Nick encouraged it so he can’t even get mad at me for spending money! These pieces are by patagonia, which is really cool because patagonia is typically outdoorsy and sporty. But these chambray shorts and 3/4-length sleeve top are perfect for running errands or hanging out.

Because it’s still extremely hot, I’m sticking to shorts. I love these black shorts because they’re the perfect length and fit so comfortably. So I’m going to pair them with this sleeveless top and sandals, which is another outfit that is perfect for hanging out, drinking beer or lemonade or even running errands.

The Colors Were All Right…

… but the shoes were all wrong, so I cropped them out! This outfit stayed in my drafts folder for a while, but I loved the peaches, oranges, and pinks because they’re very fresh and summery so I just had to share, even if I’m a season behind. I also felt pretty clever that I made a DIY peplum top out of this flowy blouse, I just wish I had a lighter colored belt. I guess I can add that to my shopping list! Also, I may have already told you think but I bought this skirt in Los Angeles a few years ago when I was visiting my best friend, so this is my West Coast fashionista piece that makes me feel all fancy 😉

Halloween Colors

Halloween Colors | NCsquared Life

I love wearing black and orange together. Probably because they’re Halloween colors and I love Halloween.

(Side note: I’m working on Halloween post with our costumes. As in years before, we didn’t get very many photos but we were totally cute.)

I think I could live in this outfit. This amazing blazer is from my September Stitch Fix box; I asked for more outerwear pieces because I think all of mine come from Banana Republic and I enjoy branching out. I fell in love with it the second I pulled it out of the box. It’s made of fairly heavy material so I can wear it in cooler weather, and the ruching on the sleeves is adorable!

I wore it to a meeting and then wore it again to work and class. The coolest thing was that I got a ton of compliments on it from my friends, coworkers and strangers! One guy in my class even complimented it and fashion is probably that last thing on his mind. So, needless to say, it makes me feel pretty fabulous.

Orange and Green

Orange and Green | NCsquared Life

Yesterday I said the next time you saw me I would probably be in my new location and I am!

To recap, I started a Masters program in Public Health (MPH) last fall at ECU, which is a good hour and a half from my house (and not an online program). I spent this past year commuting to school, staying with family and friends while I was there during the week. After a while, all of the driving, not having my own space, missing out on important events in my program, AND being away from Nick and the dogs were really starting to get to me. I was exhausted and stressed all the time, and my health was affected because I wasn’t sleeping well, eating too much fast food,  and not getting enough exercise from being on the road all the time. Luckily, over the summer I was offered a position as a graduate assistant to one of my favorite professors, which provides enough income to pay for a small apartment… so that’s what I did. I moved into a studio apartment last week and the best part is I get to bring my furbabies! Once I’m all settled in, I’ll share some photos.

I wore this outfit yesterday to an event welcoming the new cohort to the program. I had planned to wear my chambray wedges, but I had to do a lot of walking so I changed into these at the last minute. They’re teal and the cargidan is green, so the wedges probably would have looked better but this worked well enough.

At our event, we had food and drinks and along with meeting new students, we reconnected with current students that we hadn’t seen all summer as they were off doing their own internships all over the place. It was a fun time!

I apologize for the quality of these photos; I know they’re not great but I will play around with the lighting. And when Nick is here, we’ll get some good shots of campus, so I’m really excited about that!

Orange is the New Black

June 27, 2014 by Nikki 4 Comments

Orange is the New Black | NCsquared Life

The title of this post is probably a bit misleading because I’ve never seen the show. I hear good things, though, and would like to catch up as soon as I ever have free time again. I just wanted to point out that I’m wearing orange and black (which are typical fall/Halloween colors) in the summer. I’ve had this top in my closet for a while now and it’s been pretty neglected so I decided to take it out and show it come love. I’m still craving comfort so I choose this black skirt and these cute little flats. I plan to wear this top again soon with something white, maybe shorts. What do you think?
