Shorts Weather

April 13, 2015 by Nikki 2 Comments

Shorts Weather | NCsquared Life

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! My professional paper/thesis is almost complete and my presentation/defense is this week so I’ve finally had some time to 1) actually get dressed in a new outfit and 2) to snap a few pictures of the outfits. This last week it got up to 80 degrees, which is definitely shorts weather, and I don’t wear shorts all willy nilly. But these are so comfortable, so I couldn’t wait to wear them. They’re the perfect length, as well.

I wore this outfit to class and to the office, and out to dinner with friends.

Dreaming of Warm Sunshine

February 24, 2015 by Nikki 8 Comments

Dreaming of Warm Sunshine | NCsquared Life

I woke up to snow this morning. A few weeks ago, the sun was shining and there was a warm breeze and it almost *almost* felt like spring. Nick and I decided to venture out and finally made our way into Nordstrom Rack for the first time. I have no idea how I haven’t been in a Nordstrom Rack before, especially with one so close to me, but I definitely think I’ve found my new favorite store! I bought this shirt on super sale and it is now my favorite. It fits like a dream, which I wasn’t expecting, and has the perfect amount of looseness without looking too big. I also love the the peak of lace at the bottom; it’s such a pretty little detail. After wearing this outfit to lunch and to run some errands (because, other than class, that’s about the only thing I leave the house for these days), I was looking forward to wearing it for days on end but then the chill set in, so I’ve been left dreaming of warm sunshine.

I paired it with more delicate jewelry so as not to overpower the perfection of the shirt.

When spring comes, I plan to switch to flats. These are a nice beige-y suede, so I plan to wear them with everything!

Distressed Denim and New Loafers

January 26, 2015 by Nikki No Comments

Distressed Denim and New Loafers | NCsquared Life

I thought about not posting this outfit because it felt so plain and simple that it couldn’t possibly be blog worthy, but I did some shopping recently and this was the result. I really like the look of distressed jeans but I’ve been apprehensive of them until now. I decided to try these Rockstar skinnies from Old Navy and they’re not too shabby – I was afraid they would be too tight. I need to have them hemmed because they didn’t have any short sizes, but in the meantime I just rolled them under. I’ll have to remember to tell the tailor to take them in a little as well, so they keep their skinny shape. I wore this outfit to run errands and then to dinner with friends.

I also fell in love with all of the pretty flats Old Navy has out for Spring. I ultimately chose these because they feel like springtime in winter, even though NC can’t make up its mind as to whether it’s going to be warm or cold. We’ve had a pattern these last few weeks of cold, rainy days followed by sunshine and high 50s, rinse and repeat, so loafers were actually pretty appropriate footwear for a few days. I can’t wait to wear them with skirts and shorts in a few months.

When I Really Like an Outfit

September 30, 2014 by Nikki 3 Comments

When I Like an Outfit | NCsquared Life

You can probably tell when I really like an outfit by the number of photos I post of it. The more comfortable I feel in my clothes, the more I like the outfit and the more photos I take. I think clothes can really enhance your confidence and, for me, it shows because I get a lot of cute picutres out of it. This one is probably my new favorite outfit, though. I’ve worn this to dinner with friends, to class and to work, and for hanging out. And I would wear it every day if I could. When I think about my signature style these days, this is it: a cute top, a cardigan, a scarf, and comfy shoes. It doesn’t get much better than that.

I purchased this scarf on sale at a cute little boutique during a conference trip to Wilmington last week. I loved the plumy colors but I didn’t realize it would match this cargidan so well until I got home and put them together. I chose the turquoise flats to break up all the plum, and I have to say that I’m absolutely loving the plum/turquoise combo. Ahh, there’s just so much to love about this little outfit.

Here’s the fun one: I had so much fun with the Bloopers post last week that I’ve decided to add one as my fun post whenever I have a good one from a shoot. In this one, I was looking up at a plane in the sky. For some reason, the plane looked weird to me so it caught my attention and Nick caught that in this photo!

Polka Dot Pencil Skirt

This was another clinic outfit. As an intern I was required to wear a name badge in the clinic so the staff would recognize that I was a part of the study and not just some random – yet always well-dressed – girl going into exam rooms to harass the patients. For that reason, I tried to plan my outfits with a blazer because it was easier to clip the badge to the lapel of the blazer instead of to my shirt, although, once I didn’t wear a blazer because it was just too dang hot so I clipped it to my necklace, and that worked pretty well. I paired this outfit with a summer-y coral blazer (see: last photo) but I really liked the outfit without out.

I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my shoes this summer, and these were no exception. One of the nurses told a doctor that you can “always trust a girl with cute shoes” in reference to something I said. I suppose she’s right, because how can you be wrong when your shoes are so right? 🙂
