No Ordinary Sweater

December 18, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

My Favorite Sweater | NCsquared Life

This is no ordinary sweater. It’s an open-backed pullover (or something like that) which is new territory for me. I wore this outfit to lunch and then again to work, but the first time I wore it I kept trying to pull the back closed, as if I were in a hospital gown. Nick finally convinced me that it wasn’t open too wide and that it looked really nice, and now it is quickly becoming one of my favorite winter pieces!

I love how it sparkles and is cozy and warm, despite the open back. I also really like how it looks a little chunky without swallowing me up. And can you tell that these jeans are black (and supposed to be skinny)? I’ve noticed that I’ve been wearing a lot of black and white and gray lately, but neutrals are never a bad thing when they look this classy! 😉

Craving Comfort

Craving Comfort | NCsquared Life

Don’t adjust your computer screens, folks… I really am this pale!  But don’t worry, I’m heading to the beach this weekend for my friend’s bachelorette weekend bash so hopefuly I’ll come back with a little color on my skin.

I’ve been doing a ton of driving lately for school so I’ve been craving comfort. This black maxi skirt is one of the most comfortable articles of clothing that I own so I may or may not have worn it several days in a row. I bought it for my very first belly dance performance because I needed a long, black, flowy skirt, and now I wear it all the time. I love it. I know this outfit has been done to death but it’s so good that I’m sure it’ll be around for a while. Since a gray tee and black skirt isn’t that thrilling on it’s own, I tied the tee to add some excitement and keep it feeling fresh and modern.

Put a Flower On It

Put a Flower On It | NCsquared Life

I’ve already said you can’t go wrong with neutrals, so of course I did it again. But this time, I took it a step further and added a pop of color with this fabric flower clip/hair elastic and my yellow clutch. I bought the flower to wear in my hair for a wedding but it works with everything. I put it in my hair, pin it to my shirts and blazers, and I’ve even pinned it to my handbags.

The button-front top has gray stripes, to give it a little more interest.  I wore this outfit to class and was a total cutie the whole time.

Can’t Go Wrong With Neutrals

Can't Go Wrong With Neutrals | NCsquared Life

Outfit #4 for the 30 for 30 Challenge. These are coming along quite nicely now that I’ve given the rules a little breathing room.

I wore this to a meeting at school about our internship requirements. The bad news is I was in a car for three hours because I had to drive to campus and back but the good news is they gave us free lunch.  I had planned to wear a black pencil skirt but decided to go with the crop pants because it was a little chilly out this morning. The plaid blazer was a good choice because it added some interest, but I could have incorporated some more color. Although, you clearly can’t go wrong with neutrals!

I really like wearing crop pants, which can be a bit tricky when you’re as short as I am (5’1”) because you run the risk of them being too long and then they’re not cropped, they’re just cut off below the ankle. I stick to petite sizes because they’re prefect for us shorties, and that’s what I recommend. Otherwise you can get them hemmed.

Since Nick has become my photographer, my photo shoots have gotten much more fun! He makes me laugh a lot. It’s a quality I love about him, a good quality to have.

BONUS: The photographer becomes the photographed! Here are a few shots I snapped of Nick this afternoon. Look at that handsomeness!

Easy Like Sunday Morning

November 11, 2013 by Nikki No Comments
striped button-front, flowy vest, scarf and ankle boots (booties) | NCsquared Life

When I was working 9-5, it was Monday through Friday and my weekends were free. When you’re a grad student, you’re ALWAYS working. This is what I wore to meet my study group on Sunday to work on a project that is due next week. Truthfully, if it wasn’t for that, I would have staying in my pajamas all day. But, It was a beautiful day with the temperature around 70 and very few clouds in the sky. I apologize for the less-than-stellar quality of these photos, but I’m in a different location than usual and have to figure out the best lighting.

I just got these booties this weekend and I am in LOVE; I’ve hardly taken them off my feet!  On the other hand, when I purchased this flowy vest, I wasn’t sure I would get a lot of wears out of it. In fact, I wasn’t even planning on wearing it today until I saw all the wrinkles in my shirt (please don’t judge) and realized I should throw something on over it to cover them up. This vest is a clear winner. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner!
