On Wednesday, Nick and I took the day off of work to celebrate his upcoming birthday. We decided we would go to a fancy spa nearby and pamper ourselves with couple’s massages, relaxation, and a fancy lunch. This cute little Market & Spruce dress I got from my latest Stitch Fix is what I wore. The spa day sounded great in theory but, what I didn’t expect when I got there was just how out of my element I would feel in that setting. You see, I’m from a working class family where I was taught that your work ethic should be strong and the little luxuries were buying the name-brand cereal. Taking a whole day (or even half a day) to sit around in fancy robes and sip citrus water elixirs while harps played in the background was unheard of.

The Dress

Several bloggers I follow either already have this dress or want this dress, and I wore this Grecian-inspired dress to my friend’s Indian wedding! I picked it up several weeks ago because it’s beautiful and absolutely perfect to wear to a summer wedding. You see, my friend, Waseem, is Muslim so as soon as I was invited, I knew I wanted to be respectful and cover up. The long skirt is obviously perfect, the flowy material was light and airy so I wasn’t sweating the whole time, and it looks great with a cardigan! But perhaps the best thing about it was that IT WAS AVAILABLE IN PETITE!

The Wedding

The wedding was absolutely beautiful. It was my first Indian wedding so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was great. As you might expect, it was almost completely different from a traditional Christian wedding, but there was plenty of prayers, well wishes, and Waseem walked down the aisle with her father. Also, the food was delicious and everyone was so happy for the couple. In true NCsquared fashion, Nick matched his tie to my dress. Oh. My. Goodness. we are the cutest couple ever!

These are my awesome friends, Kristin (left) and Aarti (right). They specifically requested to be on the blog, so here you are ladies, this one is for you! *wink*

This is Kristin, me, Aarti, and our other friend, Leigh. We all met in my master’s program and graduated together. I absolutely love these girls. They’re incredibly smart, talented, funny, and I know I wouldn’t have made it through without them. Kristin just moved to the Triangle, so we’ll get to hang out all the time now. Our new mission is to find jobs for Aarti and Leigh in the Triangle so we can be together again. Unfortunately, Waseem is leaving for the midwest and we’re going to miss her!

Also, fun fact: Aarti and I went to the same high school but not at the same time because I’m 5 years older than her (I did, however, know her older brother because he was in my grade). After we discovered this, we bonded over our stories about our hometown and the people there. Now we’re the best of friends!

The decorations at the wedding were beautiful. This one little picture just doesn’t do it justice.

Ok, maybe I’m a little biased but I think my friend, Waseem, is the most gorgeous bride that has ever existed, even more beautiful than I was as a bride! She’s also really sweet and super cool, so I’m extremely happy for her and her new husband.

Apparently, I have a thing for little green dresses! I have three of them so far. However, I didn’t have a fancy green dress so when I saw this one, I had to have it. I figured it would make a good holiday dress and I was right. I wore this to my graduate program’s winter social. It wasn’t very cool out, even though it is December, so I didn’t need a wrap or jacket. But I did wear sparkly tights because SPARKLY TIGHTS!

I’ve been looking for a black clutch and wouldn’t you know, during our day of cleaning house, I found this old thing! It’s pretty outdated and kind of tiny and the cell phone pocket was made for a small flip phone (that should tell you how old it is!). I don’t think I’ll be keeping it, but it’s working until I find a new one.

These stud earrings were a gift from my mother-in-law. I don’t usually wear studs because of my attached earlobe but I love their simple sophistication.

I probably like green so much because it brings out the green in my eyes!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my best friend got married over the weekend. This is the dress I wore for the ceremony rehearsal and dinner, and the wedding planner complimented me on it during our line up! I really love this dress. I purchased it because I thought it would be easy to dress up and to dress down. However, as I seem to do with most of my dresses, I somehow convinced myself that it was too fancy to wear for casual occassions so I’ve only worn it one other time, which was for my baby cousin’s college graduation. Looking at it now in these photos, I’m back to feeling like it could be worn more casually. What do you think?

Looking at these photos also makes me realize that these shoes look and feel like Barbie shoes, which is so funny to me!
