Monday was the first day of summer session, which includes my internship , and this is what I wore. I wasn’t 100% sure of what I would be doing on the first day but I wanted to make a good impression, even though I’ve met with these folks before. I mostly sat through a few meetings, received my first project assignments, and nailed down my schedule. Not too bad for a first day. I’ll probably stick to more comfortable shoes in the future, as I’ll be doing a lot of walking. But I’m really looking forward to the work I’ll be doing this summer, which includes grant writing for funds to carry out new research. That will be really good experience for when I’m back in the real world.
I was going to wear a different navy pencil skirt with this outfit but the zipper on it got stuck and would. not. budge. I even tried using pliers but that sucker wasn’t going anywhere. I eventually had to give up and put on this skirt instead. I might even like this outfit better.
Here’s the fun one:
Linking up with More Pieces of Me | Perfectly Coutured | Walking in Memphis in High Heels | Mix and Match Fashion
Top, Skirt, and Shoes: Banana Republic
Handbag: Fraco Sarto
Bracelet: Old Navy
Pearl necklace and bracelet: Wedding gifts from my mother-in-law
Sounds like you had a great first day, and any skirt with a ruffle on the bottom is a winner in my book!
The bottom is definitely what sold me on the skirt. I love it!
I love your skirt!!! I think it was a blessing the other skirt didn’t work out. This skirt looks great on you!!! I love the fun swing at the bottom of your skirt. It is so fun!!! So glad I found your blog. Loved reading your bio. I love sushi, a good book, and of course a healthy glass of wine. Have a great weekend!!

Thanks, Angela! I think you’re right, it worked out pretty well that I couldn’t wear the other skirt. And aren’t those things (sushi, books, and wine) the best?! I look forward to exploring your blog, as well 🙂
I love navy and cognac together! And I love that gingham top! I’ve been wanting one in navy or black! Great look for a first day, I’d say!
Oooh, how fun, Nikki! I love the shape of that skirt – so flattering! I’ve never tried a skirt with that shape before, but I’m thinking it might be with a shot 🙂 I’m glad to hear that you’re excited to get started with your internship. It sounds like you’ll be learning some very valuable skills in grant writing!
I am very much looking forward to all of the things I’ll be learning this summer! I was really skeptical about this skirt, too, because I didn’t think the shape would be flattering but I was pleasantly surprised! I now know to try things on before just writing them off.
