Fall Family 2014

Fall Family 2014 | NCsquared Life | Photos by 2 & 3 Photography

It’s that time of year again! We had the most adorable photos ever taken for our holiday photos. You can’t tell it from the photos – which speaks to the talent of Thad and Sarah as photographers – but the weather was cold, windy, and rainy the day we took them. I wasn’t sure how they would turn out because of the weather, but as you can see, I had nothing to worry about.

Also, you’ll recognize this outfit from my newest obsession post.

Mia Sophia – she’s always so inquisitive.

Chico Antonio – he didn’t love the chill in the air, but he was a trooper and we got this gem.

Of course there were several more good ones, but we’re saving those for our holiday cards this year.

Happy Fall, everyone!

My Newest Obsession: Cropped Sweaters

November 11, 2014 by Nikki 3 Comments

My Newest Obsession: Cropped Sweaters | NCsquared Life

First, pleae allow me  to say Happy Veterans Day and send out my profound gratitude to everyone that has served or currently serves in our armed forces.

Second, I’m loving cropped sweaters. I want to buy them all and wear them year-round. As a high-waisted short girl, I have a hard time finding tops that aren’t too long and some trends, like half-tucking sweaters, just don’t work. But cropped sweaters get me, especiallly these mohair cropped sweaters from Banana Republic. In fact, I bought several of them in different colors. The awesome thing is I can wear them layered like this OR I can wear them as sweaters with high-waisted bottoms, half-tucked! Maybe average height girls can do that, too, but I’m just excited to find a trend that works for me so I hope this one sticks around.

I wore this outfit for our annual family photos that go out on our holiday cards. I’ll be sharing a few of them later this week.

One Outfit, Two Pairs of Shoes

September 15, 2014 by Nikki 6 Comments

One Outfit, Two Pairs of Shoes | NCsquared Life

I often have trouble deciding what shoes to wear with an outfit. Sometimes it’s because part of me wants comfort while the other part wants style and, honestly, not every shoe I have gives me both. Sometimes it’s because two different but similar shoes look good with the outfit. That’s what happened when I put this look together! I had two pairs of cognac shoes, both with heels, and both looked great with this outfit.

The oxfords were the shoes I originally had in mind when I saw this outfit in my head. I think it’s a great fall transitional look, when the weather is starting to cool down, oh so slightly, so that it’s still warm enough for shorts but cool enough that you can wear a long sleeved shirt without melting into a pool of sweat.

Of course, the same can be said for spring, which is when I would normally wear these sandals. I decided to try them with the outfit because I’ve seen a lot of bloggers wear heels with shorts, which is a bit outside of my comfort zone but I wanted to try it anyway. I think the result is gorgeous!

I love both pairs of shoes and, even more, I love both pair with this simple outfit. So how do I decide which ones to wear? Which ones would you wear?

Mustard Cardi on Repeat

Mustard Cardi on Repeat | NCsquared Life

I cannot get enough of this cardigan. It’s probably the best purchase I’ve ever made in my life because I wear it All. The. Time. And it looks great with a leopard scarf! Last fall I wore this white tee/mustard cardi/leopard scarf combo with jeans and boots, thanks to Audry at Putting Me Together. But jeans and boots didn’t seem appropriate in the warm weather so I went with a striped skirt and oxfords. Not too shabby, eh?

Happy Color

December 16, 2013 by Nikki No Comments

Happy Color | NCsquared Life

Isn’t yellow such a happy color? I mean, it’s the color of sunshine, daffodils, and lemonade, all of which are some of the happiest things on the planet!

It was bright and crisp out today so I decided to wear yellow to keep the happy spirits up while finishing up some holiday shopping. It was a valiant effort, but, alas, I still have some shopping left.
