Outlet Shopping

August 10, 2015 by Nikki 4 Comments

Outlet Shopping | NCsquared Life

I’ve been doing a bit more outlet shopping than usual lately, and I’m kind of loving it. Visiting a Banana Republic Outlet in undergrad is what sparked my love for Banana Republic. It was around the time that I got my first part-time office job and needed appropriate clothing for it. So, I went to a BR Outlet and purchased an adorable pencil skirt, a great pair of trousers, some cute jeans and several blouses and hence a new love affair was born.

In an attempt to save money and closet space, I’m trying to only purchase pieces that I absolutely love and will wear all the time. I love both this shirt and pair of shorts. I’ve worn them several times already in several different outfits so I know I picked some winners. I also purchased a cute little skirt with this top so that I can wear it in an office setting once I find a job. I’m just hoping that’s sooner rather than later! I wore this outfit at home, while I was clearing out some clutter in the office and then to dinner at our favorite taco spot, Nanataco.

Dress Week: LBD Day to Night

August 7, 2015 by Nikki 5 Comments

*I’m devoting this week to dresses in an attempt to motivate myself to actually wear the dresses I have in my closet.*

Dress Week: LBD Day to Night | NCsquared Life

I thought closing out my dress week with a day to night look seemed really appropriate and perfect for the weekend, so below I show you how I wore it during the day and then at night.

DAY

First things first: I love this dress. I was afraid the top part just above the waist would look funny because it did a weird pointy thing in the dressing room, but after a good ironing, it’s perfect. I wore it during the day to do some shopping and I actually wore it into the Banana Republic (where I bought it) and the sales girl complimented me. She was like, “Oh, girl, that dress looks good on you – it’s ours right?” She didn’t even have to be nice to try to sell it to me because I had already purchased it, so you know she meant it!

NIGHT

After a day of shopping, I changed shoes and accessories to go out for dinner. I chose a simple necklace this time, instead of something larger like a statement piece, because I wanted to keep the look simple but elegant. The shoes and clutch were no brainers for going out.

The only thing I don’t particularly love about this dress is how easily the skirt wrinkles. It’s like, as soon as I sit down, BAM wrinkles.

Dress Week: Olive T-Shirt Dress

August 3, 2015 by Nikki 11 Comments

*I’m devoting this week to dresses in an attempt to motivate myself to actually wear the dresses I have in my closet.*

I’m not sure why but I have a closet full of dresses that I never wear. I love them all, which is why I have them, but dresses often feel too formal to me; I used to only wear them for special occasions. I keep finding really cute dresses with the intention of wearing them casually, but after wearing a dress once (usually for a special occasion) it starts to feel too formal. So I’m going to devote this entire week to wearing the dresses in my closet!

I picked up this dress on a whim while shopping with my friend. And when I say “on a whim” I mean I was literally walking up to the register when it caught my eye and I grabbed it. I didn’t try it on, I just grabbed my size and continued on my way to the register. I never do that! I figured I’d end up taking it back but when I got it home and tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. I wore it for the first time to have coffee on a lazy Sunday morning with my BFF and then later to do our weekly grocery shopping. I’m feeling a little self-conscious about my tummy these days, so I added this pretty scarf to take attention away from my midsection. The colors in the scarf – pinks, grays and olive – were a perfect match for this dress. I can’t wait to wear these same pieces in the fall with tights, booties, and a jacket!

This cute little shoulder detail keeps the dress from feeling boring.

A Little Boho

July 9, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

A Little Boho | NCsquared Life

I wanted to try something different so I went a little boho. This shirt is loose and flowy at the bottom, which is a bit outside of my comfort zone. But I really liked the pattern and color, and I was excited about trying a new shape so I went for it. When I paired the top with the shorts, Nick said I looked boho. I’ve always liked how the boho style looks on others; they seem to do it so well and make it look so pretty. But it’s one of those styles I feel I don’t know how to pull off. This is my first attempt and I know there are plenty of ways to boho it up a little more. Also, I pretty much lived in these shorts all weekend because they’re very comfortable.

I purchased this necklace on my recent Savannah trip. It’s very different from all the other pieces I’ve gotten and it kind of reminds me of The Artist Formerly Known as Prince’s symbol so that’s what I affectionately call it!

Craving Comfort

June 26, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

Craving Comfort | NCsquared Life

Don’t adjust your computer screens, folks… I really am this pale!  But don’t worry, I’m heading to the beach this weekend for my friend’s bachelorette weekend bash so hopefuly I’ll come back with a little color on my skin.

I’ve been doing a ton of driving lately for school so I’ve been craving comfort. This black maxi skirt is one of the most comfortable articles of clothing that I own so I may or may not have worn it several days in a row. I bought it for my very first belly dance performance because I needed a long, black, flowy skirt, and now I wear it all the time. I love it. I know this outfit has been done to death but it’s so good that I’m sure it’ll be around for a while. Since a gray tee and black skirt isn’t that thrilling on it’s own, I tied the tee to add some excitement and keep it feeling fresh and modern.
