Conscious Copy Cat

November 16, 2016 by Nikki 11 Comments

Conscious Copy Cat | NCsquared Life

This isn’t the first time I’ve copied an outfit from Audrey from Putting Me Together and it certainly won’t be the last. Her style is the most relatable for me because she keeps her pieces affordable and comfortable yet still in style with the times. When I saw her Comfortable Fall Outfit and realized  that I already had the same or similar pieces (but not on purpose this time; it’s just because my style is already very similar to hers), I knew I would be playing copycat again. However, I’m planning to wear my version for Thanksgiving dinner with my families — yes, I will most likely be wearing it twice to two separate dinners, sorry not sorry — so I wanted to dress it up a little. Of course I had to accentuate the bump by adding a belt around my waist. And even though you can’t see it very well in the photos, I added a sparkly necklace that looks really nice in person, which gives it a hint of sophistication. I also added a jeweled headband and a sparkly clutch. Voila, instant dinner outfit!

This is a great outfit to transition into winter as well, because as the temperature drops, I plan on wearing it with black tights and black ankle boots. Throw in a black scarf under my coat and I’ll be good to go. By the way, this isn’t a maternity dress, it’s a regular swing dress from Old Navy, but it is PERFECT for my bump. I’m considering purchasing, like, a million more of these bad boys.

Here’s the fun blooper: Eyes closed while adjusting my sleeves. This is probably what I look like most of the time in life. At least there’s still a smile on my face!

Volunteering

Volunteering | NCsquared Life

Y’all, I literally snapped these pictures right before the sky dropped with rain and hail. There isn’t really anything special about this outfit except that I wore it, and I knew that if I waited until another time to take photos they wouldn’t happen. So, in an effort to remian true to myself and what I want my blog to be, I braved Mother Nature’s fury to show you how I wore a cardigan with a cute dress that’s perfect for working in an office in the summertime. I chose a burgundy cardi over a black one to break up the monotony and I chose a cardi over a denim jacket because I wasn’t sure what the dress code would be in the office I wore this to. Turns out, it’s super relaxed.

I wore this outfit to my first official day as a volunteer with a public health organization in my town. I’ll be hanging out in their office about one day a week, helping with their social media campaigns and toolkits. I’m actually pretty excited about the work because it’s really interesting and I have a lot of ideas. And you never know, it could lead to a full-time position! I do feel bad, though, because I think I scared an intern into thinking there will be NO. JOBS. when she’s done with school. She has a year left in grad school (she’s basically where I was last summer) and is thinking of moving to the area when she’s done because she’s from out-of-state and says she likes it here in NC. When I told her it has been almost two months since I graduated and haven’t found anything yet, she looked a little wide-eyed and made a comment like, “oh, great.” I tried to reassure her that our fields are different and the work we each want to do is different, so she shouldn’t use my experience as a gauge of whether she’ll find something.  I hope she believed me because it’s true. I’m very picky specific about what I want to do, but I’m sure she’ll be just fine!

I’d love to hear your experiences with volunteering. I’ve volunteered with several different organzations and I’ve found it more rewarding than I originally thought I would. Where have you volunteered and what kind of service did you provide?

Tie-Neck Blouse and Cardigan

December 24, 2014 by Nikki 2 Comments

Tie Blouse and Cardigan | NCsquared Life

Merry Christmas Eve to all those who celebrate! You should also know that today is my dad’s birthday (happy birthday, daddy!) and my birthday is in exactly one week, so December is one of my favorite months.

This is one of those easy outfits that I love because it’s casual but looks like you put a lot of time and effort into it when really it only took you 5 minutes to get dressed! Cute tops and cardigans are one of my staples because you can always switch them up without getting bored. Today’s cardigan is wine/burgundy (I never know what we’re calling this color, but I hate the term oxblood so I refuse to call it that one) but next week I could wear it with a mustard cardi (like this) or a green cardigan. The possiblities are endless when you have as many cardigans as I do!

A Sweater and a Skirt

October 8, 2014 by Nikki No Comments

A Sweater and a Skirt | NCsquared Life

It seems that I’ve been gravitating toward this sweater a lot lately. I’ve been wearing it with dark pants (see here and here) but I switched it up a little  this time and paired it with my Fall-approved burgundy skirt. The inspiration for this outfit came from a mannequin that was styled similarly in the store – this same skirt was paired with a bulky sweater and a cute jacket. A few years ago, I probably never would have thought to wear a looser top with a flowy skirt, but I’m really loving the shape. I wore this outfit on a Starbucks and breakfast run over the weekend. I would say that it’s another one of those outfits that I really like because I took a lot of outfit photos of it AND I plan to wear it again this week (but probably with flats).

Also, I can’t get over how much I love this burgundy/wine color!

Fall Trends

September 24, 2014 by Nikki 6 Comments

Fall Trends | NCsquared Life

I think this outfit is full of fall trends: stripes, burgundy, and leopard. The weather is still warm so we don’t have to put away the short sleeves and bare legs just yet. In full disclosure, I haven’t worn this outfit yet but it’s on the lineup for this next week. I purchased the top and skirt on my mini shopping spree earlier this month and this is one of the outfits I put together in the dressing room. I think I’ll add a scarf when I wear it for real this week, since it’s technically fall now and scarves are another awesome fall trend.
