Tee + Jeans + Boots

January 26, 2017 by Nikki 4 Comments

Yesterday I talked about how my go-to formula lately has been sweater (top) + jeans + boots. Here’s another example of how well that works. It was almost 70 degrees so I got to wear a tee under the cardigan and I’m not complaining.

I wore this outfit to my doctor’s appointment the other morning and I told my midwife I was concerned that I’m not gaining enough weight. She said my belly and Baby S are measuring just fine, BUT I should start eating more peanut butter, avocados, loaded baked potatoes, ICE CREAM AND COOK OUT MILKSHAKES. Pretty much all of my favorite things… and it’s doctor’s orders! This pregnancy thing isn’t so bad 😉

It was totally warm enough to not wear the cardigan but it wasn’t too warm that I was uncomfortable in it, so I mostly left it on.

You can see the tip of my sock, which I think is cute. I hate the advice I’ve seen some bloggers give that your socks should never be visible but there really isn’t anyone looking down my shoe so I see no reason to worry about it. Plus, it could give a nice, unexpected pop of color.

Same but Different

February 9, 2016 by Nikki 2 Comments

This is a redo of an outfit I wore on one of the coldest days in NC two years ago that I called “winter pink.” I’m wearing the same sweater and jeans, but I switched up the details just a little. My vest is more ivory than white and it isn’t as puffy, I’m wearing ankle boots instead of tall boots, and my necklace is shorter. I’m still wearing a floral scarf but it’s a different one. It definitely wasn’t as cold this time around as it was a few years ago!

So, I was going to wear this to work yesterday but I had a bad case of the Mondays. My car wouldn’t start so Nick was nice enough to drive me to work, but when I got there, I realized that I grabbed his computer on  my way out of the house so he had to turn around and bring me home to get my computer. I decided to cancel my one afternoon meeting and work from home. I’m extremely grateful that I have a job that will allow me to work from home in a pinch like that. Btw, we had to get a new battery for my car. Blah!

Girls’ Day Out

January 27, 2016 by Nikki 8 Comments

Girls' Day Out | NCsquared Life

I made some amazing friends when I was in grad school. After graduation, I resumed my life here in Durham while many of my favorite ladies stayed in Greenville. We keep in touch and try to visit as often as possible, since we’re only about an hour away from each other, but unfortunately life tends to get in the way. A few weekends ago, however, a couple of my favorites came to visit me and we had a wonderful girls’ day out. We started with brunch & margaritas, then went to a wine tasting, then shopping, had “hipster” coffee, and ended the night at the best sushi place in town. And this is what I wore. It was much warmer that day, so I wore flats and changed into a cute pair of nude heels I purchased during our shopping spree, but since it’s cold and snowy now, I tried it with ankle boots and really like the outcome.

BTW, these friends convinced me to join Snapchat, so there’s that. I’ve used it a few times, but I feel like I’m an old dog trying to learn new tricks! We’ll see if I can stick with it long enough to master it.

Dreaming of Warm Sunshine

February 24, 2015 by Nikki 8 Comments

Dreaming of Warm Sunshine | NCsquared Life

I woke up to snow this morning. A few weeks ago, the sun was shining and there was a warm breeze and it almost *almost* felt like spring. Nick and I decided to venture out and finally made our way into Nordstrom Rack for the first time. I have no idea how I haven’t been in a Nordstrom Rack before, especially with one so close to me, but I definitely think I’ve found my new favorite store! I bought this shirt on super sale and it is now my favorite. It fits like a dream, which I wasn’t expecting, and has the perfect amount of looseness without looking too big. I also love the the peak of lace at the bottom; it’s such a pretty little detail. After wearing this outfit to lunch and to run some errands (because, other than class, that’s about the only thing I leave the house for these days), I was looking forward to wearing it for days on end but then the chill set in, so I’ve been left dreaming of warm sunshine.

I paired it with more delicate jewelry so as not to overpower the perfection of the shirt.

When spring comes, I plan to switch to flats. These are a nice beige-y suede, so I plan to wear them with everything!

Socks & Boots

February 23, 2015 by Nikki No Comments

Sock & Boots | NCsquared Life

Brrrr, you guys. Brr. It’s been ridiculously cold here this past week. We got snow and ice, and schools closed, and North Carolina was just out of order. Which is fine with me because ice is no joke. I grew up in the mountains so I’m used to driving in the snow but I don’t mess around with ice because NO ONE can drive on ice, I don’t care what they say! So, with the miserable chill, I needed to keep all of my skin as covered as possible to avoid frostbite. I really like the look of wearing tights with socks and ankle boots so I decided to try that look with my skinny jeans; I think it turned out really well. I went with gray socks to match the gray/blue in the scarf. I still had to throw on my red coat and gloves but I stayed fairly warm.

I’m still loving the boots; I wear them almost every day!
