By now I’m sure you’re all familiar with the home delivery style boxes like Stitch Fix. I’ve been doing Stitch Fix off and on for several years now, and I like it but not enough to do every month; I usually scheduled a Fix whenever I’m feeling like I’m in a rut (and have some disposable income), so maybe every 6 months-ish? I also did Le Tote for a while but their options were so limited because they had very few petite pieces so nothing ever really fit. Anyway, I feel like I haven’t had much luck with my past few Stitch Fix boxes so I decided to finally try Trunk Club. It’s the same concept: they curate some items for you, mail them to your house for you to try on, and you keep what you like and send the rest back. A few differences are that they send you 6-10 pieces (instead of 5 like Stitch Fix) and they let you view what they’re sending you ahead of time so you can swap things out if you don’t like the piece (much like Le Tote). It was like the best of both worlds so it sounded great to me!

I actually found out about Trunk Club through Nick because it started out as a men’s styling service and then added women’s when they were bought by Nordstrom. Nick had pretty good luck with them so I figured I might have some good luck, too. I really liked that I could speak directly to a stylist who asked me lots of questions about my lifestyle, how I currently dress, and what I was looking for in a box. I was really excited about the process and got my first box last night.

I’ll be completely honest with you: I was a little disappointed. I knew what was coming and I just wasn’t sure about some of the items the stylist chose for me. But they encourage you to give it a try if you’re unsure, so that’s what I did. However, I can’t figure out if the stylist just didn’t listen to me when I was explaining my style or if she just really wanted me to take some chances. I’m guessing it’s the latter. Also, if I’m being totally frank, some of the prices were RIDICULOUS. I thought Stitch Fix was expensive, but they’re actually much more affordable than most of the things I got in this box. I was really surprised by this because you set your price range when you’re signing up for Trunk Club. But, to be fair, the stylist did ask if I was okay when them sending some pieces that were a little out of my price range and I said yes, not realizing that by “a little” they meant well over $100 out of my range!

Anywho, here’s what I got:

I’m not feeling this top because it’s not my style at all. The sleeves are bell shaped and billowy, too much cleavage is showing, and it barely covers my belly. Plus, it doesn’t look anything on me  like it does on the model , but what piece of clothing ever does? I told Nick I felt like I was on the streets of Miami wearing this thing. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it, it’s just wrong for me. Needless to say, I’m passing on this one.

These jeans, on the other hand, are AMAZING. I love, love, LOVE them but guess what? THEY’RE $200. What?! Who has $200 to spend on jeans? Not me. And yet, here I am, seriously considering paying $200 for them because they’re comfortable and they fit better than any jean I’ve ever put on my body. Sigh.

I thought this top was cute and liked that it was a unique take on the peplum style with the ruching in place of the peplum. I could easily wear this to work or out for a weekend with the family, but alas, it was too big, as you can see in the photo below. I could possibly exchange it for an XS but I don’t love it THAT much, plus I think the ruching could start to look really sloppy and wrinkled pretty quickly. I’m passing on this one.

I didn’t think I would like this top when I saw it in the list because it’s 100% acrylic so I figured it would be itchy. But I tried it anyway, and I actually liked it. It was warm, the fit was great, and it wasn’t itchy at all – at least in the 5 minutes that I wore it. It looks orange in the photo but it’s actually more red, which I also like. I already have a red sweater and I don’t need multiples so I need to assess whether I like this one more than my existing sweater. So this one is a maybe.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Do you see this top? Do you see the look on my face? Um, no. I felt like a clown and didn’t look much better in this top. Again, I suppose there’s nothing inherently wrong with it but it is all kinds of wrong for me. It’s a no for me, dawg.

Cute little t-shirt but surprisingly heavy material. I just felt “meh” about it, plus it’s fall and will be getting cold in like a month so I’d rather purchase cool-weather basics right now. So, this one is also going back.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Wit & Wisdom jeans from other bloggers, like Audrey at Putting Me Together, and of course these did not disappoint. They’re definitely worth the hype: comfortable yet slimming, nice quality, pretty color, and they actually fit me as a petite. And they’re actually a reasonable price at $68. My stylist included these because I told her I would need to replace my trusty pair of high-rise dark wash jeans pretty soon, so I’m thinking I might have to keep these.

I cannot even express how much I LOVED these shoes but for some reason, they feel very impractical to me. They’re suede (easy to get dirty but not easy to clean), the heel is higher than I would like (they don’t look as high in the picture as they feel and I can walk fine in them but I’m trying to move away from really high heels), and I could wear them for special occasions but would they feel out of place in the office? These are a maybe.

There were several other items that came in the box that I didn’t bother photographing because I only put them on for a second and knew they weren’t for me. There was another pair of black pumps with a thick heel that I didn’t like, a pair of corduroy skinny pants that I’m just not sure about the color – it’s pretty but I don’t think I would ever wear them, a black top that was also just meh, and a pair of really nice booties but I didn’t like the top.

I feel like I’m being really picky but these are pricey items and I want to make sure they’ll be worth the money. I really like both pairs of jeans, but that would bring me to $270 for TWO pairs of jeans. Are jeans worth it? Do I have that kind of money to spend? Yes and no. So, I’ll think about it for a day or two and then make a decision.

Overall, it was a fun experience trying on new things, but now I’m stressed about what I should keep, if anything. This isn’t unique to this Trunk Club experience, I feel this way with all those services.
